The Elements of Time
There is a bit of uneven size, but we should call them nature…it doesn’t have to be perfect at all.
This five-tier vertical composition is a stitched timeline of the American landscape, captured entirely Straight Out of Camera. By rejecting digital post-processing, artificial manipulation, and software correction, this image preserves the raw, un-compromised integrity of the earth exactly as it was encountered.
The slight, natural variations in the thickness of each horizontal band are not design choices—they are the authentic signature of nature itself, where landscapes do not conform to rigid, mathematical lines.
The Journey of the Strata
Stacked from the bedrock up, the composition travels through millions of years of geological and environmental contrast:
The foundation (Moab/Arches National Park): Grounding the layout is the sun-baked, vibrant red Entrada Sandstone of the Utah desert, holding the ancient warmth and weathered history of the Southwest.
The Monumental Center (Sequoia National Park): Rising directly above the desert sandstones are the massive, soaring vertical granite faces of the Sierra Nevada, injecting immense physical scale and rugged mountain texture.
The Fluid Contrast (The Illinois River): Flowing vividly over the heavy stone is a striking confluence of deep emerald and pristine turquoise waters, captured at a hidden river access point near the rugged Oregon border. It introduces dynamic, rushing life to the center of the stone strata.
The Surrounding Wilderness:
Framed by deep canyon textures and high, jagged peaks, the completed stack stands as an organic, living cross-section of our world.
This is the planet as it is: ancient, wild, uneven, and beautiful.
